Did someone say Knitty?

Oh yes indeedy! I'm stupidly excited to have a pattern in this issue - the perfect start to Hat season!

Without further ado, let me introduce Brindled.

Brindled is a very easy Hat to wear, and it's surprisingly easy to knit, too. Short rows in the round can sometimes be a little tricksy, and I've developed a method that works for me (sloppy English thrower that I am) and produces lovely, neat results, and as soon as it's humanly possible I'll get a photo tutorial online. However with this Hat, and at this gauge, your short rows will be almost invisible, especially if you use contrasting yarns, so don't let those put you off.

The clever stripey effect is simply offset short rows, and in this pattern they're offset by a third. You could really have a good play with this concept - offset by an odd amount for something that breaks up the visuals for a more striking effect; even amounts would give you something symmetrical.

The recommended yarn is held double, resulting in a typical 4ply/fingering/sock gauge. Pebble from Shibui Knits is a little bit of luxury, yet a little goes a long way. It's incredibly light yet warm, and drapes beautifully.
